MIL-PRF-29504 (M29504) Fiber Optic Connectors
The MIL-PRF-29504 (M29504) specification covers the general requirements for removable crimp and epoxy type
fiber optic termini for use in connectors and other fiber optic components. These termini are military unique as
they are required to operate under demanding conditions that would exceed the capabilities of commercial
termini. A qualification testing system ensures performance under 10 g’s of vibration and over 1000 g’s of shock.
MIL-PRF-29504 termini are designed for use in circular or rectangular multi-pin connectors with inserts of 12 or 16
AWG cavities. The termini are available in pin, socket, or genderless types, with either front or rear release
locking devices. The socket type is spring loaded to ensure proper mating with the pin terminus.
MIL-PRF-29504 termini are most frequently used in shipboard fiber optic applications but are also used in aircraft
and many other industries. They are marked with a four-band Terminus Identification Color Code (TICC) similar to
the standard color bands found on wire contacts, but specific to fiber optics.
