IEEE 1394 Data Bus Wire & Cable
The IEEE 1394 cable combines hot swap technology with high-speed data transfer to provide a reliable data link that can be replaced node-by-node. High resistance to signal degradation and noise interference makes this cable ideal for aviation components, proven through successful use in the Space Shuttle and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
IEEE 1394 data bus protocols use channel-specific nodes to prevent damage to memory and protecting avionics components from false readings. An IEEE 1394 data bus allows for point-to-point, “daisy chain”, treed, and multiple-loop system configurations to link avionics displays, flight controls, and engine controls with redundant systems.
IEEE-1394 firewire cable can be used in conjunction with MIL-DTL-38999 connectors to provide shielded connections for high-speed data transfer in military applications.
The IEEE 1394 standard contains several slash sheets for various materials and data transfer speeds. The available transfer speeds range from 400 Megabits per second (Mbps) to 3200 Mbps (50-400 Megabytes per second [MB/s]).
